Tournament Champions
The u10 Oak Ridge girls SCOR team, Wildcats ’02, attended the FC Alliance Fall Cup over the September 10th, 2011 weekend and came home champions. The team scored a total of 17 goals, only giving up 3 for the entire weekend. The Championship game against Chattanooga United FC was a hard fought battle, ending with the Oak Ridge girls winning 4-3. Congratulations girls!
Girl Power (GU12) played up an age group in the GU13 Red Division of the FCA Fall Cup and brought home the title. The #1 ranked GU12 team in Tennessee, coached by Blake Phillipy won despite a huge size advantage. They overcame that issue with possession and skill to control games.
Saturday's first game was against FC of Kentucky '99 team and Girl Power tied, 3-3. In the second game Girl Power defeated FC Alliance Black '00, 4-1. The semi-final on Sunday pitted another FC Alliance team against Girl Power, but the result was the same with a 1-0 victory in double overtime, which earned the team a trip to the championship game against FC of Kentucky. In a hard fought game that went back and forth ended up with Girl Power finding the back of the net with five minutes left to host the hardware after a 3-2 win.

GU12 Girl Power, coached by Blake Phillipy, traveled to Asheville, NC August 27-28, 2011 to compete in the Riverside Summer Shootout. Playing in the GU13 age group the U12 Girl Power defeated LCSC (ranked #1 in South Carolina) 3-2, CSA Munidal, 6-0, Viteese Soccer, 4-0 and in the championship won, 3-1 over TFA Junta Gold to bring the championship home.
The Fusion Fall Kickoff in Clarksville, TN - Jeff Trombly’s U13 Boys team celebrated a victory August 2011 by going undefeated for all 4 of their matches. They boasted a total of 8 goals while only giving up two goals to their opponents.
The SCOR U15 Boys team traveled to Kingsport the weekend of October 8, 2011 to participate in their second tournament of the season. After being undefeated in their first 3 games, they advanced to the championship game Sunday afternoon.
The team was down two goals by the middle of the second half. The boys turned up the heat, coming back to tie the game 2-2. After a very intense, scoreless overtime, the final was decided by a PK Shootout. With Boatwright in the goal, the SCOR team beat Lakeway Legacy by 1 goal, claiming their second championship.

The Boys U15 team, coached by Don Maples, took First Place in the The Fusion Fall Kickoff in Clarksville, TN August 2011 after winning a hotly contested U15 bracket against 4 other teams from around the state. They scored a total of 14 goals throughout the weekend and only conceded 2 goals during their 4 matches.

Coaches Corner
It has been a great start to the season for the club. As DOC I was able to sit with parents, sometimes they knew I was there and at other times they didn't, and listen to what our culture is. I was able to observe coaches, head and assistants, in games and listen to instruction, watch players during warm-ups, during games on the sidelines and overall get a feel for how we will promote ourselves to others. A few things come to mind in regards to parents and changing the attitude, culture if you will, around the sidelines for not only our teams, but perhaps other clubs/teams.
1. I want our parents to educate themselves about the game... the rules, how it should be played and what is good soccer. Doing this may take reading articles such as this, coaches talking to their parents about proper sideline behavior, watching high level games on TV and judge for yourself - is what I see my kid's team doing, the same as what I see on TV? The answer to that question will be no as the technical level of the players on TV is so much higher. But are SCOR's teams trying to play the game similar to what it looks like on TV? I thought this weekend it was a resounding "YES". If our players are trying to do the right things, shouldn't our parents be doing the same things? I was amazed, it really shouldn't, but always does, at the number of parents from our teams and others that don't know the rules and make comments such as "hey ref the kid was off-sides" when the player was receiving the ball from a THROW IN! Then a parent makes a comment on a goal scored where a keeper and an opponent go up for a high ball, the keeper's first movement was to push the opponent to gain an advantage, the opponent still scores and parents are yelling "he can't interfere with the goalie. What about the push?" I wish ALL parents would sign up and attend the USSF "E" course just to get more knowledge about the sport their kids are playing.
2. Lets remember we can cheer for another team if a player on the other squad makes a great play. Yep, I said it!! I found myself cheering for the other teams goalkeeper in a few of the BU15 games. After the game the coach actually said "he should do more of that himself", but gets wrapped up in the game and what his team didn't do and doesn't applaud the great play made the other team.
3. We can also applaud the refs also. Yes, they make mistakes. Yes, we get some real stinkers at times. Yes, we also get some very good, professional refs and I bet we rarely go tell and thank them for doing the sport a good service. But without them, we can't play the games. We are sure to let them know about the bad calls. Do we ever walk up to a ref and tell them what a good job they did? In my 25+ years of playing and coaching I have only seen two games where a ref's call decided the game. Usually, there is something my team, or the other team, could have done during the course of the game that impacted the outcome more so than a ref's call, good or bad.
Just some thoughts as we start to get our season rolling. Just be mindful that we impact our team, club, community and the sport itself every time we step on the field to train or play. Let's impact the sport for the good as we are all part of the world's sport... soccer, aka... Futbol!!

From the President’s Desk
We had a great start to the Academy. A terrific turnout and a lot of 65+ enthusiastic players and parents. Our fall competitive teams are off to a strong start and beginning to settle in. We have come a long way in a month and we look forward to a successful season.
We have been getting questions about the vision for our Academy program. The goal of the Academy program is to equip our players with quality training to prepare them for competition at 10, 11, and 12 years old. In addition, the Academy program offers the opportunity to begin identifying and nurturing groups of talented soccer players to form solid SCOR teams at 10, 11, and 12 years old: “The Golden Age of Soccer Learning.” The Academy is not a “for profit” venture. We are motivated by a desire to promote soccer as the sport of choice for the best athletes in this community by providing the important “first steps” required to achieve at the highest levels of the game. For additional details, contact Coach Don or any of our Board members.
Please watch our site for updates and information.
Remember: This is YOUR Club! We want to hear from you.
Yours in soccer, Jeff.
What Can SCOR Do for You?
